Someone who has meningitis and septicaemia could become seriously ill very quickly. Parents should always be encouraged to get medical help immediately if they suspect meningitis or septicaemia.
If a parent has visited the Dr with a sick child and been sent home, they should be encouraged to seek urgent medical help again if a child’s symptoms progress.
The MRF has a resources hub on its website for parents when they are worried about what to do when their child is unwell - https://www.meningitis.org/meningitis/safety-netting-resources-hub
This includes guidelines and links to other resources available from other charities and organisations to help parents and guardians caring for sick children at home.
