Superdrug is offering patients Wegovy injections as part of a face-to-face weight loss service in 11 of its health clinics.

As part of the service, the multiple said patients will have a one-to-one talk with a Nursing and Midwifery Council-registered nurse about their weight loss goals, medical history, blood pressure and body mass index.

Superdrug said that "providing the patient qualifies for the service with an eligible BMI," they will be able to buy "an initial four-week supply of weight loss injections."

Superdrug also said patients will “receive additional educational material with information on the service and medication, a guide on lifestyle advice including a food and fluid diary and weight loss tracker.”

Patients will then be booked into follow-up consultations with a nurse four weeks after starting the weight loss injections when they can talk about any side-effects and have their blood pressure and BMI measured again. 

“At Superdrug, our aim is to provide people with a range of options to suit different requirements so that they have a wider choice to help them make informed decisions,” said Superdrug’s pharmacy superintendent Niamh McMillan.

“Providing weight loss injections at our health clinics gives people the option to discuss their needs with a nurse face to face and be guided by them so they’re clear on all the benefits and risks, and how to administer the injection themselves.

“The weight loss service is only available for those who have an eligible BMI, and we have a strict screening process both in our Health Clinics and online so that only people eligible will be able to access the service.”

Superdrug is charging £245 for one four-week course of Wegovy at its health clinics in Marble Arch and Holborn Station, Brent Cross, Rushden Lakes, Clacton-on-Sea, Leeds (White Rose Shopping Centre), Glasgow Parkhead Forge Shopping Centre, Elliott’s Field Rugby, Liverpool Speke, The Fort Birmingham and Durham Arnison Shopping Centre.

It said it will roll the service out to all 90 of its health clinics in the next six months.
